About Saginaw Future Inc.
Established in 1992, Saginaw Future Inc. (SFI) is a public-private alliance of local businesses, the County of Saginaw, City of Saginaw, 15 local municipalities and the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce. SFI’s strategic partners also include education, labor and government.
Since its beginning, SFI has remained dedicated to fostering quality job creation through expansion of local industry and attraction of new business projects to the community. Because business conditions have changed and evolved, SFI has responded with value-added programs to deliver solutions for economic development issues that are important to the local business community. As technology continues to make the world smaller, SFI will work to adapt and develop programs to help local companies compete and win in the global economy.
Saginaw Future Wins Gold
Saginaw Future Inc. received a Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award for “Nexteer’s Journey” in the category of Business Retention & Expansion - Single Events for communities with populations of 200,000 - 500,000 from the International Economic Development Council. During the bankruptcy of Delphi and the sale of the Steering business, SFI, the Saginaw County Chamber and Buena Vista, banded together to create a positive message to potential buyers and an incentive package that eventually led to the successful establishment of Nexteer Automotive.
Economic Development Excellence
In late 2009, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke announced that Saginaw Future and its partners received the Excellence in Economic Development Award for Excellence in Environmental or Energy Economic Development for their commitment to research-based, market driven economic development in helping grow the local economy.
